US lawmakers express happiness over growing ties with India

Two top American lawmakers have met Indian Ambassador Nirupama Rao and expressed happiness over the growing momentum in India-US relations, especially in the fields of counter-terrorism and trade.

Congressmen Mac Thornberry and Devin Nunes in their meeting with Rao, exchanged views on bilateral relations and regional and global issues of common interest, an embassy statement said in Washington.
"They expressed happiness over the growing momentum in India-US relations based on shared democratic values and converging interests," said Virander Paul, spokesman of the Indian Embassy.
Thornberry highlighted the growing cooperation between the two countries in the field of counter-terrorism and expressed interest in enhancing engagement with India on cyber-security.
Nunes referred to the rapidly growing trade and economic engagement between India and the US and the role of the Indian diaspora in America in building an important cultural bridge between the two countries.
Thornberry, widely regarded for his expertise on national security issues, is the Vice Chairman of the US House of Representative's Armed Services Committee and a senior Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Nunes comes from a Congressional district in California which has a large Indian community presence and is a Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence as well as a Member of the House Ways and Means Committee.
